What makes a pattern worth examining?

HCW product & methodology guide · Updated

Pattern Beneath is HCW’s area for examining a concern that depends on more than one event. It considers relationships among records, people, timing, communication, behavior and relevant requirements, using the case context assembled through Paper Trail, the Master Timeline and Case Brain.

A recurring difficulty may deserve attention without having a single explanation. The useful result is an analysis another person can examine: which events support it, which do not, what else could explain the recurrence and what needs checking. The new application remains in prelaunch.

The question begins with what actually happened.

If several parenting exchanges did not occur as expected, an examination needs the arrangements, dates, communications and records of what happened. Relevant child, safety and practical context also belongs in the account. Similar-looking events do not establish a shared motive.

Chronology supplies sequence, while evidence supplies material that may support or challenge an explanation. Case Brain contributes wider case context so the analysis does not depend on an isolated screenshot.

Contradictory information belongs in the explanation too.

A pattern explanation should identify supporting events, source quality, exceptions and information that does not fit. Repetition may raise a question; independent corroboration or a contradictory record may change how much weight it deserves.

Lens Shift is the product area for considering another perspective. It asks what an alternative explanation would predict and whether the available record supports that account, rather than replacing one confident label with another.

Sometimes the most useful result is a better question.

The next step may be obtaining a complete conversation, comparing dates or checking the operative order. Those questions can inform Case Compass without treating an analysis as proof of wrongdoing.

A correlation, an inference and a legal requirement remain different things. Human review and corrections belong in the working explanation. Specific analytical actions and release access still need confirmation; no diagnostic determination or independently validated detection rate is claimed.

Compliance and bias questions need a comparison, not a label.

Compliance Intelligence compares what an order required with what was later documented, including exceptions and incomplete records. Bias Intelligence helps identify assumptions or uneven treatment that may deserve closer examination. A discrepancy can justify a question without establishing intent or unlawful treatment.

For example, two similar requests may receive different responses because their timing, supporting information or requirements differed. Lens Shift tests alternatives against the record. Keep those differences and contrary events visible before describing a recurring problem; the application does not make a finding of bias or wrongdoing.
